I re-joined the reinsurance industry as a Pricing Actuary in Toronto, where I built a solid foundation in risk assessment, pricing models, and data-driven decision-making. This role enhanced my ability to develop customized solutions tailored to clients' needs and portfolios. Later, I transitioned to a client-facing role as a Reinsurance Broker in Montreal, serving Québec's French-speaking clients. Here, I learned to manage key relationships, engage in strategic discussions, and deliver insights, while leading initiatives like the revamp of placement systems that boosted efficiency and cut resource use by 50%.
Now, as a Reinsurance Broker in our UAE Office, I focus on Africa, helping clients manage earnings volatility, safeguard capital, and optimize some of their KPIs where they express a need. Leveraging my technical and managerial expertise, I collaborate with actuarial teams to deliver tailored risk transfer solutions. My career reflects a deliberate evolution from technical analysis to leadership and business development, establishing me as a trusted partner in the reinsurance market.
As a Corporate Actuarial Manager, I focused on driving operational efficiency and empowering strategic decision-making while fostering team development and growth. A key achievement was leading the revamp of the reserving process, where I designed an actuarial datamart to unify premium and claims data after a portfolio merger. This initiative streamlined the reserving process with SAS/SQL, saving 10 FTE-days monthly, improved claims reconciliation, standardized Unearned Premium Reserve calculations, centralized reserve reporting, and ensured auditability through detailed documentation and transparency.
I also developed a profitability monitoring framework to provide insights on metrics like loss ratios, frequency, and severity, offering fiscal-year aggregation and customizable portfolio views to enhance decision-making. Additionally, I played a pivotal role in forecasting, contributing actuarial inputs for Gross Written Premium, reserves, and claims estimates for financial planning. My leadership extended to implementing the ResQ actuarial software in Canada, which significantly improved reserve modeling and risk analysis, leveraging prior advancements in reserving and profitability processes. Beyond technical accomplishments, I led recruitment efforts, onboarding new talent, and organized study groups to support junior colleagues in their actuarial exams, fostering a culture of collaboration and professional growth.
This role's focus was on optimizing the incoming and renewals business through Analytics, leveraging data-science and actuarial skills. One of the major enhancement one can do to align underwriting and Actuarial is, to use the Actuarial pricing's GLM to derive a subset model for underwriting, which aims at optimizing the UW KPIs based on the online quoters' metrics. In turn we evaluate the impact of significant rate changes in the affected province and recommended necessary adjustments to the underwriting rules.
I also periodically reviewed personal auto underwriting scores for new business in the same Canadian province, ensuring alignment with market dynamics and underwriting objectives. Additionally, I collaborated on a national flood model development by providing critical flood data to an external partner \(which would later become my current employer. In this role I also got the opportunity to leverage my understanding of the Canadian Rate Filing system, assessing the market impacts of telematics and identifying key trends to inform strategic decision-making. Overall this role really allowed to consolidate my analytical and data-science foundations to drive insights and support underwriting and market strategies.
In this role, I managed a $20M portfolio spanning Chile, Venezuela, Ecuador, Panama, and regional covers. My responsibilities included underwriting, pricing, and evaluating submissions while analyzing exposures and determining appropriate coverage and contract language. I regularly presented findings and recommendations to the Underwriting Committee, ensuring alignment with strategic objectives and risk management standards.
Additionally, I focused on maintaining and expanding a robust network of clients and brokers, fostering strong relationships to support portfolio restructuring and growth. This experience highlights my ability to balance technical expertise with relationship management to achieve sustainable business outcomes.
